Autosport International at the NEC
Generally speaking, January isn’t the favourite time of year for race fans except for one exception. Autosport International, AKA The Racing Car Show. For most of us it is the one chance we have of getting up close to last year’s championship winners and of course, getting intimate with winners of the yesteryear too. Plus it’s great for a bit of autograph hunting too!
This year NGK will be there and for sure you won’t be able to miss us because centre stand, we’ve got something a little out of the ordinary. A Pro-Mod dragster courtesy of British record holder, Andy Robinson. His big orange monster will be one of the fastest cars at the show with performance figures that would even make Lewis Hamilton green with envy. 0-239mph in 5.98 seconds! That would definitely kick sand in the face of his competitors on the F1 grid!
On the subject of F1, apart from the traditional line up of the 2015 Formula One grid which is always well worth deliberating over, there’s going to be a special feature on Williams F1, a team that we’ve always had a soft spot for since we’ve sparked many of their F1 wins.
Going back in time, our friends from Classic Team Lotus will be there too. So be sure to have an ogle at their mouth watering collection of F1 greats. Earlier this year we were lucky enough to be given an exclusive interview with Clive Chapman, son of Colin, who heads up the whole operation up in Hethel. Click here if you’d like to hear his recollections as a lad sitting on the pitwall. Definitely comes under the heading of wish you’d been there!
Two wheel fans won’t be disappointed either as there will be some big names from the past, including Phil Read and no doubt many others. If you haven’t been, we’ve got a great video tour of the Road Racing Museum in North wales where several of Phil’s bikes and helmets are on show. Not to be missed.
British Touring Cars are always a firm favourite too, in the show as well as on track and there will be lots of the drivers there to take your questions.
WRC will be another stand not to be missed as it’s another arena where we’ve been rather busy in over the years, with many title winners to our name. And while you’re at it be sure to swing by our mates at M-sport who will be exhibiting in their own right too.
Of course there’s lots of on track action too which at times can get seriously mental. Never a good idea putting a bunch of racers together in a confined space…
Last but not least don’t forget your cheque book! Or maybe the better advice is to forget your chequebook, that way you won’t be tempted by the Coys Auction. Needless to say there’s plenty to opportunity to spend, spend, spend, including an Ex Carroll Shelby Elva (see our Snakebite story for more on the man). We’ll be keeping our hands firmly in our pockets for this one!
If you can make it, be sure to swing past our stand in Hall 2, Stand No 2850. If you’ve got a technical question be sure to ask a memeber of the team who will be happy to help you.
